Two weeks ago, I was dragged to the theater to see “Get Out,” a movie I had already dubbed the worst movie of 2017. I went reluctantly, having run out of excuses not to go. I hadn’t even bothered watching the entire trailer. All I knew was that Jordan Peele, a well known comedian, was attempting to tackle issues of racism in the form of a “thriller,” and I simply wasn’t interested. But there I was, front and center, at a movie theater in Southwest Atlanta, surrounded by other anxious movie goers. Luckily, I also had a frozen margarita. This was the moment of truth.
Tonight, President Obama will address the nation one last time in his much anticipated farewell speech. As I come to terms with what that really means, it’s hard to find solace. The reasons are a bit complicated, some of them easier to articulate than others, but all equally as hard to swallow. So as we prepare for what I know will be an emotional night, I’d like to reflect. I have more than a few things to say.
It’s time. This is President Barack Obama’s last State of the Union Address. According to the White House, not only will this be the shortest SOTU address from President Obama, but it will also be the shortest address in 25 years-and that’s probably because, as most of you know, President Obama has insufficient f*cks to give.
Ahhhh yes. My President is Black. I don’t have a blue Lambo, but I totally get how Young Jeezy felt in that one song. And while our President graduated from both Columbia AND Harvard…sometimes, when confronted with really stupid people, he gets to show off his comedic genius. And SOMETIMES, he doesn’t even crack a smile. (We call that SHADE) After the terrorist attacks in Paris, followed by conservatives calling on the President to “do something”, it became crystal clear that Obama wasn’t here for any Monday morning Quater-backing. And as the video of him telling people to “pop off” went viral, it made me think of all the other times our President has NOT been here for your sh*t. Click below and enjoy.
First Lady Michelle Obama is passionate about a lot of things. She’s brought many of her passions to the forefront with several initiatives, many of them focusing on health, women’s equality, and education. Now, as a part of her Reach Higher Initiative, Mrs. Obama is launching a new website called BetterMakeRoom.org.
Last night during one of the most bizarre VMA Awards shows to date, Kanye West made a confusing speech that was extremely hard to follow, and at the end of the speech, he announced his bid for Presidency. This doesn’t come as a surprise, given that Kanye pretty much believes he can do anything. And to be honest, he probably can. I don’t see why being the President of the United States should get crossed off of that list.
As the #GOPClownCar gets more and more attention, it’s become quite clear to most Americans that Donald Trump is the ringleader. Yea. He keeps shit goin’. Yep, he’s giving everybody a run for their money and “Making America Great Again” as he would put it. But most of us with any good sense at all know EXACTLY what that means when it’s coming out of Donald Trump’s mouth. Translation: “Making America more Racist, Sexist, Classist and Intolerant Again.” Trump’s most recent aggression was aimed at esteemed journalist, Jorge Ramos. His suggestion to Mr. Ramos? “Go back to Univision.”
