I love me a good biopic. I think most people do. Who wouldn’t jump at the chance to get a behind the scenes look at their favorite celeb’s MESS? The last time Black America got the opportunity to enjoy a well put together biopic, it came courtesy of a highly unlikely source-BET. There’s no debating that the New Edition biopic was AMAZING, hitting the mark with the script, cast, styling-the whole nine. So it got me thinking-there are a couple of celebs who deserve a biopic in the very near future. Just as long as Lifetime doesn’t have anything to do with it, these stories have HUGE potential to go down as classics!
It’s that time of year of again-time to recap the BET Awards, that is. Last night, our friends over at Black Entertainment Television delivered yet another captivating award show that we’ll remember for years to come. From amazing Prince tributes, to some not so amazing performances, the BET Awards, like always, if nothing else, gave us something to talk about. After watching, I have 9 pressing questions that I need answered.
When I first heard of Prince’s passing, I was on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I hadn’t really been paying much attention to social media, or national news for that matter. I was too busy taking in the amazing scenery-and the amazing alcohol. But one morning, I woke up and decided to check my news feed just to see what I’d been missing. An avid social media user, I could only go so long without logging in. Like most people, I wasn’t at all prepared for what I saw next. Reports that legendary singer Prince had died in the elevator of his Paisley Park compound left me numb. This couldn’t be true.
Weeks after the death of Freddie Gray, the city of Baltimore is still recovering from protests. Many people have been critical of the way some Baltimore residents have reacted to Gray’s death, however, Prince decided that he didn’t want to be one of those people. He wanted to help.
The 2015 Grammys was everything I hadn’t hoped for. It was 3 and a half long hours of me trying to keep my eyes open just in case something exciting actually happened. Overall, I was pretty unimpressed with the show. I was hoping to get life from Kanye and Pharrell’s performances, but Kanye’s set was underwhelming and if I hear “Happy” one more time, BABY I’m going berserk! But towards the end, things got good. And there were even some fun moments on the red carpet. Check out my favorite moments at the Grammys. The Good, The Bad, and Rihanna’s Dress.
