(S)Cam Newton dabbed his way into our hearts last year. We couldn’t get enough of the young athlete and his willingness to be what we interpreted as unapologetically Black. We enjoyed the spectacle, and quite frankly, the audacity. In late 2015, Newton, a Panthers quarterback, received an unexpected letter from a Tennessee mom who unlike much of the Black community, wasn’t impressed with Newton at all. As a matter of fact, she was pissed, calling the player “arrogant” and a “spoiled brat.” It was strange to say the least.
Women do everything. We’re the givers of life for starters, and in my humble opinion, that settles any and all debts for all of eternity. But besides being Mother Nature personified, we’re the leaders of movements, we’re teachers, we own businesses, we’re mothers, doctors, writers, game-changers. But why is it that we’re still not equally represented all across the board?
As the #GOPClownCar gets more and more attention, it’s become quite clear to most Americans that Donald Trump is the ringleader. Yea. He keeps shit goin’. Yep, he’s giving everybody a run for their money and “Making America Great Again” as he would put it. But most of us with any good sense at all know EXACTLY what that means when it’s coming out of Donald Trump’s mouth. Translation: “Making America more Racist, Sexist, Classist and Intolerant Again.” Trump’s most recent aggression was aimed at esteemed journalist, Jorge Ramos. His suggestion to Mr. Ramos? “Go back to Univision.”
There a few good things about America. One of them being that a former homeless man could decide to run for President, and perhaps even WIN. Back in 2011, the world was first introduced to Ted Williams via a video posted by The Columbus Dispatch. The video, which put Williams’ “golden voice” on display, led to national television appearances and earned Williams numerous voice-over jobs.
Donald Trump is well known douchebag. Personally, I think the only reason people even talk to him is because he has a ridiculous amount of money. He’s like the boyfriend or husband that you only put up with because they buy you nice things and take you on trips out of the country. But sometimes really rich husbands can be so damn annoying that even the money won’t make you stay. Yea, that’s kinda what’s happening with Univision and the Donald as we speak.
Mia Love is the first Black Republican woman to be elected to Congress. She is also one of my least favorite people. Her politics alone are enough to make me dislike her, but the fact that she is a Black woman in America and STILL believes the things that come out of her mouth makes me wonder if she’s playing with a full deck.
President Barack Obama hasn’t had it easy over the last 6 1/2 years. As you can probably imagine, there’s been incredible pressure on the guy. He will go down in history as the first Black President…ever. That’s a lot to take on. Inevitably, he’s had his share of naysayers. For many, it seems that the President can’t do anything right. For some white people he simply isn’t “white” enough, and for some Blacks, his policies aren’t “Black” enough. However, in the face of all of this adversity, Obama has managed to hold his head high, and maintain an amazing amount of dignity and class. After the recent blood bath in Charleston, in addition to the ongoing racial tension in this country, the President dropped the “N bomb” on a recent podcast with Marc Maron, declaring that racism IS still a problem in America.
