Oprah Winfrey has always been quite impressive. Even from the beginning, as a news anchor in Baltimore, there was always something very special about Oprah. Years later, that little country girl from the back roads of Mississippi is a self-made billionaire media mogul. What’s left for her to do? Well apparently…invest in Weight Watchers.
So it’s happening. The Richard Pryor biopic is in the works, and production will begin in March of 2016. Lucky for us, Lee Daniels and Harvey Weinstein have put together an amazing, star-studded cast, and I definitely think this movie is gonna go down in history books.
Who’s up for some trading? I am! Over the last year, a lot has happened. And the truth is, a lot of these unfortunate (AND fortunate) events have brought out a lot of people’s true colors. Whether it be your Facebook friends, your real life friends, or your favorite celebrities, thanks to social media, we have access to EVERYBODY’S thoughts on a regular basis…and sometimes, that can be really annoying.
One thing that’s annoyed me to no end is seeing some of my favorite Black celebrities make complete and utter fools out of themselves, turning their backs on the Black community, making comments on national TV and via Twitter that they really should reconsider. So I’ve decided that there are 6 Black people that I’d like to trade in exchange for 6 White folk. Here’s who I’ve chosen:
Yesterday, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) held a private press reception at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Buckhead, Atlanta, GA to present seasons 2b of their respective shows. And of course, your girl Karma was in the building!
If you don’t know Deray, you may not be following the news close enough. He basically lives on CNN. The young activist, a former school administrator, quit his job and set out to stand up against injustice at the hands of the state nationwide. Named one of Fortune’s “World’s Greatest Leaders”, Deray McKesson has made an indelible mark on history and continues to do so through his tireless work. But today, when I opened my eyes and logged on to Twitter, I was surprised to find that Montel Williams, of all people was up in the middle of the night, sending nasty tweets to Deray for no damn reason.
It seems like it’s pretty hard for Karrueche to stay out of the limelight these days, given the fact that her off again, on again boyfriend, singer Chris Brown just can’t do right. Karrueche, who has been bashed by EVERYBODY via social media, including Brown, has finally decided to have a come to Jesus moment. But in this case, Jesus is Iyanla Vanzant, and she’s ready to help Karrueche “fix her life.”
Not too long ago, I wrote a piece about one of Oxygen’s newest reality shows called “Preachers of Detroit.” I touched on a couple of controversial issues within the church, but I failed to mention a particular topic that I had been mulling over since I’d watched the first season of “Preachers of LA.” Excess. Opulence. Lavishness.
I’d often wondered why pastors needed Bentleys, mansions, Rolexes, etc. etc. It just really didn’t sit well with me. While I understand that preachers have a right to make a living, and the right to buy anything that they please with the money they’ve earned, it seems to me that living such a luxurious lifestyle is in direct opposition to the Bible’s teachings.
I don’t know if you guys saw Dr. Phil’s “interview” with Nick Gordon yesterday, but it was…bad. I didn’t expect it to be good, but I certainly didn’t expect it to be this horrible either. Nick’s girlfriend, Bobbi Kristina, has been in a coma since February, and remains in critical condition at Emory University hospital. Nick has not been a allowed to see Bobbi Kristina, and according to his mother, the separation has taken a toll on him.
Oh. The Oscars. What a wonderful love/hate relationship we have. There’s so much to say, and so little time. But I am going to try and do my BEST to fit everything in, and to hopefully, be nowhere near as boring as the actual show. Here goes!
