When I was asked to attend the screening of “Snowfall,” I knew right away the show was going to be a hit. John Singleton has never disappointed, and neither has FX for that matter. Boyz N the Hood, Poetic Justice, Higher Learning-to put it simply, John Singleton specializes in hood classics. He has a unique ability to capture the dichotomy that exists in ghettos from the east to west coast. He highlights the joy, the pain, the oppression, the freedom that surrounds Black folk coming of age in the hood. Singleton has never shied away from telling the stories of people who would have otherwise been overlooked. It’s his mission to not only make his audience understand the characters’ plight, but to also see their humanity. “Snowfall” is no different.
I am so excited to be covering Cocktails with Claire Sulmers & Miss Diddy this weekend, here in Atlanta! These girls are doing big things, and they have been for awhile now. Sulmers, who is a Harvard graduate, and is fluent in French, has an AMAZING resume. You can read it here. Miss Diddy is equally impressive, a self made woman, who happens to be the ONLY woman party promoter in Hollywood. She is also a Hennessy (my favorite drink) Key Account Manager.
And while these ladies live two different lives on two different coasts, they both have one very important thing in common–fashion. They are INCREDIBLY fashionable.
Ever meet someone who looks like art? Like they’re so well put together-everything they wear, do and say-it seems so cool, yet so natural…and you’re always like, “Why didn’t I think of that?” I guess that’s kinda how you have to be when you’re a fashion stylist. I mean, it doesn’t hurt to be…FASHIONABLE…on the cutting edge…able to see the world how most people can’t. Well that’s exactly what Aaron Tucker is-a creative in every sense of the word-an enigma, perhaps. He could absolutely sit down for a drink with Cher in Manhattan, and then the next minute, be posted up at the bar being super cool and straight out of a music video with his boys in Harlem. (And yes, I meant THAT Cher. He helped style her.) You just never know with this guy. But to me, that’s the beauty of it all. And anyway, I think he’s definitely worth knowing. Check out my interview with him below.
So of course when I got an invite to a screening of the much anticipated film, San Andreas, I was more than thrilled. I’d been dying to see a new movie, and naturally, I’m always down to look at “The Rock” for a few hours. But I have to say, the movie was not what I expected at all.
Last night, in LA, the Urban Movie Channel, along with RLJ Entertainment, hosted a private screening of the much anticipated “Black Bird.” In case you didn’t know, Mo’nique, who recently made headlines for allegedly being “Black Balled” in Hollywood, is featured in this film, and I for one, am glad to see our girl back on the big screen.
