Hearing that Gene Wilder died last night was a bit much for me. 2016 has been such a sh*t storm. Everything happened this year-Prince died, Donald Trump is running for President, and Black celebrities keep “All Lives Matter-ing” us on social media. Now the good Lord has taken Willy Wonka on to glory. What now?
A few years ago, I moved to Atlanta, GA. At the time, I was stuck in Washington, D.C., unsure of my next move, and tired of the same old same. Rent was too damn high, and the money wasn’t coming in fast enough. Like many young, Black people with a dollar and a dream, I viewed Atlanta as the Mecca-a place I could go to fulfill my dreams. And for me, it turned out that was true. That was back in 2013.
Well it looks like the smoke may be clearing among the hair divas in the ATL, but let’s not speak too soon. Something tells me that the ladies aren’t going to be able to keep it classy that much longer.
Just when we thought Rachel Dolezal had made her home somewhere in a small (mostly Black, of course) neighborhood on the outskirts of some city, making a living by braiding hair and doing sew-ins, never to be heard from again, she pops up on the campus of Howard University. And of ALL things, she’s filming a movie.
Six years ago, Chris Brown and then girlfriend Rihanna made headlines after a picture of a bruised and battered Rih Rih hit the internet. The on again, off again couple had reportedly been engaged in a heated exchange that turned violent, leaving Rihanna in very bad shape. Naturally, in the age of social media, the picture went viral, and while most of us have moved on, the truth is, none of us have forgotten.
Some people just have “it.” You can’t buy “it.” You can’t rent “it.” It’s a natural, God-given, innate thing that some people have and the rest of us just don’t. And that’s OK. Everything isn’t for everybody. But this brother right here, he’s one of the lucky ones. Meet Terrell P.
Last night, while indulging in one of my many guilty pleasures (Love and Hip Hop), I realized the women I once hated, for some strange reason, I now felt extremely sorry for. Watching Tara, (Peter Gunz’ ex-wife turned side piece) question Peter for caring about Amina’s reaction after finding out her husband cheated AND impregnated another woman, made me want to throw something at the TV. But because my TV is brand spanking new, and mama ain’t raise no fool-I just yelled at it. That’s right. I yelled long and hard.
I don’t know if I need to say this-but…I think Crystal Wright is trash. Crystal Wright, better known as “GOPBlackChick” on Twitter, spends her days trolling the Black Lives Matter movement, and Black people in general, while pledging her allegiance to the lilliest white of her Twitter followers along with various politicians. She does this, of course, in an attempt to seem better educated and more sophisticated than other Black people-who undoubtedly in her mind are all violent, lowbrow, ruffians that she’d be better off distancing herself from. Frankly, I’m not sure how she can even see clearly enough to tweet all of these awful things with her head so far up white supremacy’s ass and all. But apparently-she makes do.
When someone mentions Iggy Azalea’s name, you’re likely to get one of two reactions-sheer annoyance, or utter excitement. While I don’t personally know anyone whose face lights up at the mention of the rapper’s name, (I’m not friends with any tween girls), I’m sure there is SOMEONE out there who really enjoys Iggy’s music. And while it’s true that Iggy Azalea has become a mega popstar over the last year, it’s also become painfully obvious that most Black people think she’s a joke…everybody except T.I. apparently. Because I think Iggy has gotten enough honest feedback about how bad of an artist she is, I try not to make a habit of taking unnecessary digs at the rapper, but today, after reading an article from the Washington Post entitled “How Iggy Azalea Mastered Her ‘blaccent’”, if I don’t talk about the huge elephant in the room, I might implode.
