When I first saw advertisements for Almost Christmas, I gotta admit, I was excited, but not for the reasons I think most people were. Mostly, I was ready to see Mo’Nique get back on the silver screen, and I was equally glad that ol’ Danny Glover was still cashing those checks in Hollywood. Those two things alone were enough to spark my interest, but I just wasn’t sure if I was thrilled about seeing what I assumed would be another This Christmas.
Yesterday, I came across a story that I was surprised I hadn’t heard about. Each day, we get bombarded with news stories from every outlet possible, and sometimes things can get overwhelming. But when I read the story about a Detroit woman by the name of Mary “Unique” Spears, I wished I had found out about it sooner. This mother of three was killed by 38 year old Mark Dorch after Spears allegedly turned down his sexual advances at a bar.
Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the advanced screening of BET’s hit TV series, “Being Mary Jane” starring Gabrielle Union. I must say, I was impressed! I’ve been a bit of a critic of the show in the past, but this first episode really put me back on the “Being Mary Jane” bus. I’m strapped in and ready to go!
Saturday night, I had the pleasure of attending the Cocoa Fab premiere party for Lifetime’s “With This Ring” ATL style. Not only did I get the chance to indulge in delicious hors d’oeuvres and complimentary beverages, but I also got to meet and talk with the authors of the book, “The Vow”, which the Lifetime movie was based on.
