Gabby Douglas, Her Terrible Tweets, Shoving Sexual Assault Under the Rug & the Switch Up

Gabby Douglas, 21-year old Olympian and Gold medalist, has always had a soft spot in Black America’s heart. She’s young, gifted, (Black), and poppin’ so that’s pretty much all we needed to get on board. Throughout her career she has faced a lot of criticism particularly about the way she looks. Her hair has been a topic of discussion on many occasions, especially on social media. Many white Twitter users  attacked Gabby during the Olympics when she didn’t put her hand over her heart during the National Anthem. But in typical Black people fashion, we rushed to her defense, most of us banding together to build a protective shield around her. We were rooting for her, and hoping she’d ultimately kick ass at the Olympics, which she did.

GOPBlackChick & Her Never Ending Pursuit of Self-Worth -9 Times Her Coonery Went Overboard

crystalwright

I don’t know if I need to say this-but…I think Crystal Wright is trash. Crystal Wright, better known as “GOPBlackChick” on Twitter, spends her days trolling the Black Lives Matter movement, and Black people in general, while pledging her allegiance to the lilliest white of her Twitter followers along with various politicians. She does this, of course, in an attempt to seem better educated and more sophisticated than other Black people-who undoubtedly in her mind are all violent, lowbrow, ruffians that she’d be better off distancing herself from. Frankly, I’m not sure how she can even see clearly enough to tweet all of these awful things with her head so far up white supremacy’s ass and all. But apparently-she makes do.

Social media has allowed us to really get inside famous people’s heads…and sometimes, to be quite frank, I wish we didn’t have this kind of access.

Stop Trying to Play “Social Media Activists”

love

The Power of the Hashtag–
“You don’t do shit but TWEET,” one angry social media user wrote, accusing Deray McKesson of being all bark and no bite. By now, most of us know Deray as a young, passionate activist who shares his experiences on the front lines of the movement via Twitter, daily. Over the course of a year, Deray has managed to become somewhat of a Twitter (and real life) celebrity, acquiring over 200,000 followers and counting (Beyonce’s one of them).

The LA Times Hired a “Black Twitter” Writer, and As We Suspected, There’s a Shady Motive

Black-Twitter-Logo-Wallpaper-Pc

If you aren’t familiar with “Black Twitter”, you’re missing out. There’s really nowhere else on the Internet where you can find such a dynamic group of young (and not so young) Black folk, sharing thoughts on everything from police brutality and politics to what it means to “grow up Black.” So it was really no surprise when we attracted the (unwanted) attention of the LA Times. Recently, Managing Editor S. Mitra Kalita hired a Black writer by the name of Dexter Thomas to “cover” the “Black Twitter beat.” And the result was as disastrous as we (Black Twitter) had expected.
