8 Times Prince Was Super Shady, & We Lived for It

When I first heard of Prince’s passing, I was on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I hadn’t really been paying much attention to social media, or national news for that matter. I was too busy taking in the amazing scenery-and the amazing alcohol. But one morning, I woke up and decided to check my news feed just to see what I’d been missing. An avid social media user, I could only go so long without logging in. Like most people, I wasn’t at all prepared for what I saw next. Reports that legendary singer Prince had died in the elevator of his Paisley Park compound left me numb. This couldn’t be true.

At first I thought it was rumor. It had to be. Social media kills people off all the time without warning. I immediately went to Good Morning America’s timeline for confirmation. It was true. The singer had died at the age of 57, no one knew how. I picked up a newspaper that had the singer’s face plastered on the front. It was real. It’s still hard to believe.

After I mourned, bought “The Hits/B-Sides” from iTunes, and played “Adore” until I had gotten tired of it, I began to think of how interesting Prince was, and still is. So mysterious, unique, and unashamed of who he was, there were two things that we could always count on from Prince-

1.Great music

2.SHADE. Lots of shade.

There are few people that can throw shade like Prince Rogers Nelson. Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Aretha Franklin are among the ranks. But Prince’s shade, like him, is legendary. Let’s take a trip down memory lane, and catch this tea from our late, great friend, Prince.

1. That time Trey Songz sang Purple Rain, and he wasn’t impressed.

2. That time Halle Berry thanked Prince for honoring her, and he confirmed that it was in fact the NAACP who was honoring her.

3. That time he was the Grammy’s and had an announcement to make.

4. That time he refused to sing onstage, and offered Quincy his lollipop instead.

5. That time he kicked Kim K off the stage.

6. That time he refused to be in Michael Jackson’s “Bad.”

8.When Prince didn’t want no parts of Sherry Sheppard.

It doesn’t get any shadier than THAT. Rest in power, Prince. We love you!
