It’s not every day that we get to enjoy a highly anticipated, pure, unfiltered, unadulterated, unapologetically Black primetime television special. But last night-that’s exactly what we did. Black, White, Latina, Asian; we sat collectively, glued to our TV screens, witnessing magic, a masterpiece-reliving our childhoods, with each song, with each familiar line. Over 11 million viewers. Yea, we DID that. Most Black people have known about ‘The Wiz’ since they were little kids. Sure, we grew up watching ‘The Wizard of Oz’, but it’s no secret that ‘The Wiz’ had a special place in our hearts. We knew. We knew it was ours. I remember being first introduced to ‘The Wiz’ by my mother. Her excitement, how she talked about Diana Ross, her childlike nature, let me know this was something to be cherished. Something I should love. And I did. I do. And last night, the cast did not disappoint. Aside from being a great example of excellence as it pertains to musical theater, art…exhibiting real dedication to the craft- ‘The Wiz’ was also Blackety Black as hell. And I loved every minute of it.
Here are 12 of the Blackest moments from last night’s ‘The Wiz Live!’
1. Neyo Hit the Dab
Neyo rly hit this dab too hard thohttps://t.co/WkbQfcezNG

2. Amber AKA “AddaPerle” had to get her magical powers n*gga rigged
— StuffFLYPeopleLIKE (@THESFPL) December 4, 2015
When one of her faithful servants told her she had to hit the switch and lean to the right so she could take off, I almost fell out! Dear Black people-you KNOW we love “fixing” stuff.
3. The Cowardly Lion had dreadlocks
The Lion has dreads. I love black people. #TheWizLive

4. Common as a bouncer & his green bluetooth
— Negrodamus (@ElKwesi) December 4, 2015
Black people, you KNOW we love changing the color of something so it can be “exclusive.” Common’s green bluetooth was a HIT. It’s also incredibly hard to get inside the Black club AKA “Emerald City” if you don’t know somebody-and Common was just following all the Black rules to a TEE last night.
Yo uncle gonna want Common's green Bluetooth so bad. #TheWizLive

He was right…

5. Queen Latifah asking the Tin Man if he was looking for a can opener
Black people LOVE “playing the dozens.” Our favorite pass time is cracking jokes and having a good laugh-often at someone we know’s expense. But hey-it’s all in good fun. So when The Queen AKA “The Wiz” asked the Tin Man if he was there for a can opener, I bout fell to the floor.

6. Dorothy had on red wedge sneakers
I think we’ve reached a point where we can be honest-we love a good sneaker.
— Cool Quiddity (@CoolQuiddity) December 4, 2015
7. Dorothy called The Lion n ‘nem her squad-“Y’all was supposed to be my squad!”
#TheWizLive just snatched "squad" from Taylor Swift and gave it back to black people where it belongs

8. Dorothy said “conversating”
Now this is not something I’d like to admit. But SOME Black folk say “coversating.” We know it’s wrong. We do it anyway. It happened Live last night on ‘The Wiz.”
We heard you say "conversating," Dorothy. Talk that talk. #TheWizLive

9. “I’ll mollywop any fool tryna step to you!”-Tin Man
This is self-explanatory. If you don’t get it, this wasn’t for you.
10. The Lion’s name was Leroy
Did they just call The Cowardly Lion "Leroy"? #TheWizLive is soooo black! Y'all don't even know.
— Bob the Unicorn (@Naamenism) December 4, 2015
11. Queen Latifah AKA “The Wiz” told Dorothy it was because she “said so” and that was the end of the conversation.
Queen Latifah just hit Dorothy with that mom "Because I said so. Now stop asking questions" #TheWizLive

12. Tin Man had on a fitted ball cap
I mean, so I think it’s safe to conclude that this show couldn’t get any Blacker. And I certainly want to thank NBC for that. Of course, a round of applause goes to the cast, and crew. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVED it! Here are a few of my favorite tweets from the night.
