Why I Respect The Kardashians and You Should Too

Kylie Jenner’s lip kit sold out in less than a minute. Yep. You read that right-60 seconds. It takes me longer to make my instant oatmeal in the morning before work. But when you’re Kylie Jenner, a member of a klan that Cosmopolitan has dubbed this country’s “First Family” (that was some bullsh*t by the way), then of COURSE your lip kit sells out in 30 seconds. Makes sense.

We were first introduced to the Kardashian/Jenners, as well as Kim K’s ass, back in 2007. Now, almost a decade later, this family is STILL relevant.

Over the years, there’s been a lot of Kim K slander. (I’ve been in on that from time to time.) But you see, I talk shit about Kim K for a different reason than I think most people do. I talk shit about ALL of the family members for different reasons than I think most people do, to be quite honest.

You see, I seriously don’t care that Kim K has a sex tape. I ain’t mad at her for it, and I sincerely hope she had a good time making it. I also-unlike most people-don’t think the Kardashian/Jenner success is something that should be downplayed. These people have built an EMPIRE.

As much crap as we give crazy ass Kris Jenner, she’s actually quite the genius.

This over the top momager has instilled in her daughters great work ethic, an understanding of business, marketing, and most importantly-HOW. TO. GET. THOSE. COINS. How can you be mad at that?

This family markets the HELL out of themselves…and guess what? Everybody’s buying. People all over the world eat, sleep and breathe Kardashian, and it’s not because of Kim K’s sex tape-it’s because they have successfully built a brand that people want to be a part of-for whatever reason.

Besides earning $35,000 per episode, Jenner also appeared on several TV shows over the years and certainly earned money from endorsing products.

[Caitlyn] Jenner is also a highly sought-after speaker, and earns $40,000 per speech, according to OK Magazine. Topics include but are not limited to personal development and success. Considering this, 2500 public speaking appearances would have been enough to generate h[er] $100,000,000 net worth. If that was all [s]he had ever done after winning the Olympics in 1976, [s]he would have had to speak once every 5-6 days ever since – a little more than once a week.

Kris Jenner runs her L.A.-based company Jenner Communications mainly to manage her children’s careers. Her responsibilities include the development of Kardashian Beauty by Kourtney, Kim and Khloé, the Kim Kardashian Fragrance Collection and Unbreakable by Khloé and Lamar. She is also managing a global lifestyle line for Sears and her own line of apparel, the Kris Jenner Kollection for QVC.

It is likely that a large part of her income is generated by Kim’s photo shoots and appearances because as her manager, she earns a percentage of what her children earn. So far, Kim is the wealthiest of her children and therefore probably generates the most income for her momager as well.

According to OK Magazine, Kris Jenner earns around $50,000 for appearances in shows or on a red carpets and around $5000 to tweet about a product. She also had a six-week trial run for her own talk show Kris that had not been extended.

Jenner Communications had taken on a joint venture with Wright-Crear Management, the music management group developing the girl group BG5 in 2010 which involved Robert Kardashian as a day-to-day operations manager. In this case Kris earned her managerial fee in addition to the percentage of Rob’s income.

Regarding Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kris earns for producing the show as well as for appearing on it.

The $100 million dollar estate that her former husband Robert Kardashian left behind in trust for his family will be playing an interesting role in the divorce settlement between Kris Jenner and Bruce Jenner.

Let’s have a look at what the businesses are that Kourtney, Kim, and Khloé have together:

  • Kardashian Beauty by Kourtney, Kim and Khloé
  • Keeping Up With The Kardashians
  • DASH clothing store
  • Kardashian Kollection (SEARS) $250M in sales
  • Kardashian Khaos
  • Kardashian Lingerie Kollection (SEARS)
  • Photo shoots for magazine covers

Endorsement deals the three sisters took on together:

  • Quick trim weight loss
  • Teeth Whitening
  • Glamor Tan sunless tanner
  • Perfect Skin
  • Tria Beauty in-home laser hair removal
  • OPI nail polish (Kardashian Kolor)

Not to mention, Kylie’s beauty products, Kendall’s modeling, Khloe, Kim, and Kourtney’s separate business ventures…these girls are working.

Let’s be clear: It takes WORK to maintain all of these businesses for as long as they have. You can’t just be sitting at home twiddling your thumbs. You have to constantly be WORKING. And frankly, I can’t talk shit about hard workers. I just don’t have it in me.

I’m just gonna be honest and say that I think most of the people who don’t like the Kardashian/Jenners are haters. Mad because they’re living the lifestyle that YOU want to live, for doing what you perceive to be “nothing.”

I mean what have they really done so wrong? They seized an opportunity and made millions of dollars. Sounds like a brilliant idea to me.

Sure Kim’s selfies are annoying…sure Kylie’s lips are obnoxious…YES we wish Khloe would just fess up to the butt injections, and we pray that Kris Jenner would just take a Xanax and be quiet. But at the end of the day, this is a family that stands by one another, and they are making money TOGETHER. You don’t have to like the Kardashians…or what they stand for-whatever you think that might be-but if you have ANY business sense at all…you simply have to respect them.

The moral of the story kids?: Don’t knock the hustle.

  1. I have recently been converted to this same fact. Prior to investigation my instinctive prejudice held sway and I thought how ridiculous that this family is so blatantly inane and self-promoting and that hold such a place in the everyday trivial conversations of millions world wide. However, upon further research and watching the family interact, I admire their constant love and support for each other. They are brave in sharing 99% of their lives with an eager public, but as you state in your excellent article they are working 25/8 to make their ventures a reality and success.

Thank you for your writing, I will continue to enjoy your perspectives in the future.
