In Mexico, “SICARIO” means “hitman”.
In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent [Emily Blunt] is enlisted by an elite government task force official [Josh Brolin] to aid in the escalating war against drugs.
Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past [Benicio Del Toro], the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.
A Lionsgate presentation, a Black Label Media presentation, a Thunder Road production, a Denis Villeneuve film, this looks very promising. Check out the trailer.
Via Entertainment Weekly:
“When I finished reading the screenplay, my hands, I was sweating,” says director Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners). “I was lacking oxygen in my lungs.” Perhaps just as shocking, the script was from a novice screenwriter, actor Taylor Sheridan, best known for his role as Deputy Chief David Hale on the FX series Sons of Anarchy. “I said to myself, ‘Oh, God, I cannot believe I’m falling in love with that story. It’s so powerful, but it’s going to be so dark.’”
I think what I’m loving most about this film is that Emily Blunt is the main character. For starters, I’m glad to see a woman playing the lead in such a gritty, hardcore film. Second, it’s cool to see Blunt step out of her typical “nice girl” roles. It’s gonna be really fun to see her kick ass.
What did Blunt have to say about her character? Well here’s what she told EW:
“She’s a female cop, and she’s doing the best she f—ing can in a situation that is impossible.”
Well alright. You go girl!
The highly-anticipated cartel thriller will be hitting select theaters on SEPTEMBER 18,2015 and nationwide on SEPTEMBER 25, 2015.
