The highly anticipated biopic “Straight Outta Compton” hits theaters this Friday, but prior to its release, Dr. Dre dropped an album by the name of “Compton”, pretty much outta nowhere. This is the NWA member’s first album in 16 years. After talking to Compton Mayor, Aja Brown about ways he can give back, Dre decided to donate the royalties from his album to a good cause.
According to MediaBlackoutUSA, Dre will be donating royalties from his album to fund a performing arts center in Compton. The Mayor says she’s excited about what’s to come.
“He clearly has a heart for Compton, especially our youth. I believe this performing arts center will provide a pathway for creative expression, exposure and training to the myriad of industries that support arts, entertainment and technology-while providing a much needed safe haven for our youth.”
Though Dre’s latest project has gotten mixed reviews, Rolling Stone gave it four out of five stars. The album is expected to sell between 260,000-275,000 units in its first week. All royalties will go towards helping Compton youth.
Now, that’s pretty Dope!
