*Eases on down the road* Yaaassss. If you are black, 8 times out of 10, you have seen The Wiz. I mean, us black people LOVE when we get our own version of things. Like most kids, I loved The Wizard of Oz as a child, but when I saw The Wiz…I fell in love. Diana Ross as “Dorothy” and Micheal Jackson as “The Scarecrow,”…I mean, what’s not to love about that? And now, thanks to NBC, The Wiz is back, and the cast is amazing!
So yesterday, when we got wind that Queen Latifah and Mary J Blige had been added to the cast, along with Stephanie Mills, things got interesting. We also learned that The Queen will be playing The Wiz, Mary will be playing Evillene (the Wicked Witch of the West), and Stephanie Mills will be playing Auntie Em. (By the way, Stephanie Mills originally played Dorothy on Broadway back in 1975, so basically, this is the real deal.)
And now, according to E! News, Beyoncé is in talks to join the rest of the girls as Glinda, the Good Witch.
As much as I wanna see Bey shine, we all know her singing is far better than her acting, but maybe she’s been brushing up on her skills. Either way, I can SO see her as Glinda, so I’m down for the cause.
What do you think about this cast, so far? Good picks? And will you be watching?
You know what, let’s cut to one of my favorite scenes form The Wiz:
