Wal-Mart is finally taking steps to remove all Confederate flag merchandise from its stores after a racially motivated mass murder in Charleston, South Carolina last week. Retailers Sears and Kmart are now following in their footsteps.
“We never want to offend anyone with the products that we offer. We have taken steps to remove all items promoting the confederate flag from our assortment — whether in our stores or on our web site,” said Walmart spokesman Brian Nick. “We have a process in place to help lead us to the right decisions when it comes to the merchandise we sell. Still, at times, items make their way into our assortment improperly — this is one of those instances.”
Just yesterday, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley called for the removal of the Confederate flag from the state capitol, which is a small victory.
I think all of this is great, except I don’t like how everyone’s pretending to all of a sudden be enlightened. Can these people honestly say that they have no idea what the Confederate flag stands for? I mean, everybody knows that “Heritage not Hate” slogan is bullsh*t. If you’ve ever been to junior high, you know that this country had a Civil War. There were two sides. The Union (against slavery), and the Confederacy (for slavery). This isn’t exactly rocket science.
I don’t think it’s hard to understand why Black people don’t really like looking at the flag. Doesn’t exactly bring up warm and fuzzy feelings. It’s kinda the same way that the swastika doesn’t elicit a great feeling in Jewish people. It’s just NOT what this country stands for anymore…(allegedly).
I had to ask Mississippi flag to be moved out of my camera shot when I sang at Super Bowl in front of all 50 state flags #TakeDownTheFlag

Although otherwise, I’m not too fond of Wal-Mart, given the way it treats its employees, I will say that this is definitely step in the right direction. Kudos!
