It’s official. Selma director Ava Duvernay has been tapped to direct Marvel’s upcoming ‘Black Panther’ film.
According to Revolt, Duvernay will be on set of the next Captain America edition, in order to get a “feel” of how everything goes.
Back in May, The Wrap reported that DuVernay was being courted by Marvel Studios for one of their upcoming “diverse” properties.” (LOL)
A superhero in her own right, Duvernay will have the opportunity to direct Chadwick Boseman, who will be playing the very first Black superhero. Superpowers unite?

Given DuVerynay’s busy schedule and her own admitted lack of knowledge around superheroes it’s likely she won’t be principally involved in the screenwriting process, but Marvel’s obvious confidence in her vision for the film should hopefully help mean we hear more news on the screenwriting front soon.
‘Black Panther’ is set to be released in 2018.
