A nasty flu almost took Serena Williams out last week. She was physically drained and collapsed after her exhausting victory in three sets in the semifinals against Timea Bacsinszky. On Saturday, Serena Williams went on to beat Lucie Safarova 6-3 6-7 (2) 6-2 to win the 2015 French Open.
Surprisingly, Serena, who’s no stranger to winning, seemed to be in disbelief after her triumph.
“It seems a little bit like a dream,” Williams told reporters. “Like, is this really my life? Is this really happening right now? So yeah, it’s really kind of weird.”
What does her competitor think?
“When she was on, she was just serving amazing and going for the returns, pressuring me right away,” said Safarova, who contests the doubles final Sunday with Bethanie Mattek-Sands. “It’s just hard to do anything with that.”
Yea, Safarova, I’m going to have to agree with you on that. Congratulations Serena. Keep being great!
