Adidas Partners With Parley to Turn Ocean Plastic Into Sportswear

Starting in 2016, Adidas will be taking on a new super cool, environmentally friendly initiative. The brand will be partnering with Parley for the Ocean to create sportswear made out of plastic found in the ocean.

In case you have no idea who or what Parley for the Ocean is, it’s an organization made up of actors, directors, artists, musicians, fashion designers, scientists, journalists, etc., that address major threats to the world’s oceans.

Here’s a not so fun fact: Every year, 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into oceans. This causes about $13 billion of damages annually. No bueno.

Eric Liedtke, Adidas Group executive board member had this to say:

“By partnering with Paryley for the Oceans, we are contributing to a great environmental cause. We co-create fabrics made from ocean plastic waste which we will integrate into our product.”

In addition, Adidas will also be phasing out the use of plastic bags in the coming year.

I don’t know about you guys, but I think this is pretty dope!

  1. I think this is a great idea and a beautiful initiative. It would be even cooler if the big sportwear brands reduce the use of plastics in their packaging and use recycled plastics in their products. I think that the impact would be even bigger.
