Raven Symone Says No to Harriet Tubman on the Twenty

Lately, I try very hard to ignore anything that Raven Symone has to say. But her most recent comments deserve some feedback. In case you’ve been under a rock, folks are trying to figure out who should be the next face on the $20 bill. Harriet Tubman is in the running. A grassroots campaign called Women on 20s started an online petition to replace Andrew Jackson on the twenty, and America seemed to be down with having American hero, Harriet Tubman on our cash. One person who is against the move, however, is Raven DontCallMeBlack Symone.

Raven is one of the newest co-hosts on the daytime talk show The View, and she never fails to let us know what she’s thinking, no matter how ridiculous:

“No offense to everyone that’s going to be mad at me for saying this, I don’t like that idea. I think we need to move a little bit forward. Let me just preface that I understand the history, I get it Trust me, I was taught, I was in that culture. … I would’ve chosen Rosa Parks. I would have chosen someone that is closer to the progression that we’re doing now. I know you have to understand history so you don’t repeat it, but that doesn’t happen in our world, because we still repeat history of hating other cultures over and over again. I would choose a different woman, no offense.”

Girl, WHET? Offense taken, boo.

BUT I can totally understand not wanting Harriet’s face on the $20 bill, but it’s for completely different reasons. Jay Smooth broke it down way better than I ever could. Check it out:

What do you think? Should Harriet Tubman be the new face on the 20?
