Philly Is The City of Sisterly Love Too: No Cat Calling Allowed

Philly has gotten really bad rap. There’s always a lot of talk about what they’re doing WRONG as a city, and I think it’s high time someone talks about what they’re doing RIGHT. I came across a cool picture on social media the other day that I wanted to share.

I’ve touched on this topic a couple of times. My most recent post on the topic The War on Women, talks a lot about the harassment that women are faced with every day, when simply walking down the street. In 2014, an organization called Stop Street Harassment (SSH) commissioned a 2,000-person national survey in the U.S. The survey found that 65% of all women had experienced street harassment. Among the women surveyed, 23%  had been sexually touched, 20% had been followed, and 9% had been forced to do something sexual.  Which is completely unacceptable.

I think it’s cool that the good people in Philly are seeking to stop harassment, assault, and invasion of women’s space. Apparently these signs are up in New York too.

What a noble thing to do!

I think standup comedian Aziz Ansari covered all bases with this one. Don’t be THAT guy!
