Today, Baltimore’s State Attorney announced that the state has probable cause to file charges against the officers who were involved in Freddie Gray’s death. This announcement comes after days of unrest and protests in Baltimore, Maryland. People all over the world are calling for police reform, and it looks like this is one step in the right direction.

According to Huffington Post, State Attorney, Marilyn Mosby stated in a press conference this morning that Freddie Gray was “illegally arrested.” Apparently, he was arrested for having a switchblade. It turns out that Freddie Gray was actually carrying a knife, which is completely lawful.

“I assured his family that no one is above the law and that I would pursue justice on their behalf,” Marilyn Mosby declared.

I have two things to say about this: Charges are being filed BECAUSE of those protests! That is a fact! Had the good people of Baltimore, Maryland NOT stood up against the injustices they face on a daily basis at the hands of the police, I can assure you that this would have been swept under the rug. Also, it took a Black woman to get the job done. Kudos to Marilyn Mosby. Now let’s hope the officers are actually punished for taking an innocent  man’s life. Let’s hope they face the same kind of punishment that a Black man who had committed the same crime would have faced!
