Brandy Norwood is making her Broadway debut next month as Roxie Hart in the classic Broadway musical Chicago. In case you’re unfamiliar, Chicago takes place in 1920’s Prohibition-era Chicago, with focus being on crime and what it means to be a “celebrity criminal.”
Roxie Hart is a character based on a real life woman by the name of Beulah Annan. Annan, a married woman, stood trial for fatally shooting her lover in the back, but was eventaully acquitted of the charges.
Norwood, the Grammy winning singer, will join a cast that includes Amra-Faye Wright (who takes over for Carly Hughes on March 30) as Velma, John Dossett as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron “Mama” Morton and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
Chicago is the longest running American Broadway musical in history. I’ve always liked Brandy. I’m super excited to see her back on the scene!
