Yes. It’s true. We get to travel back into time with one of the most memorable movies of our generation. In honor of 4/20, (weed day) my birthday, and the 20th Anniversary of the film “Friday,” the cult classic will be shown in 400 theaters across the country this year.
In a statement to Buzzfeed, Ice Cube says this is for the fans.
“For the theaters, for New Line (Cinema), for the fans to want to pay homage to the movie in this way is cool. It lets you know how much people appreciate it and how much fun it is … and it lets you know that ‘Friday’ is now a part of the American fabric.”
And THAT it is! I mean how many times a week do you hear someone say, “Bye Felicia”?? Hell, there’s even a show on VH1 with the name. “Friday” is truly a part of the Black experience, and if you haven’t seen it lose my number!
But seriously, if you’ve never seen the film, next month is as good a time as any to salvage your reputation.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m super excited about the release! They’ve even decided to include a 24-minute featurette with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews titled “Friday Straight Up.”
And they aren’t done yet! The 1995 movie soundtrack, which went No. 1, will also have a vinyl reissue on April 14th of this year. So basically, we get to pretend like we’re living in the 90’s again, and I don’t think any of us would really be opposed to THAT!
